Our History & Expertise

OVER THE PAST 100 YEARS, Abell-Howe has built tens of thousands of crane systems, thousands of runway systems, and millions of dollars of crane/hoist parts and components. We have the experience and engineering know-how to keep our customers running. Crane Equipment & Service (CES) is the manufacturer of Abell-Howe Cranes.

Abell-Howe was founded in 1917 in the Chicagoland area. Important milestones in our history include:

  • 1917 – Abell-Howe is formed by Oliver Abell & Glenn Howe
  • 1950’s – Moves to new facility in Forest Park, IL
  • 1998 – Abell-Howe is purchased by Columbus McKinnon
  • 2002 – Abell-Howe becomes Crane Equipment & Service (CES)
  • 2004 – A production moves to Eureka, IL
  • 2019 – CES purchased from Columbus McKinnon
